Doctor Donnee Ness Donnee 1

Donnee Ness is a registered Physiotherapist, having gained her BSc Hons in 1990 at Wits University, RSA. She subsequently read her MSc at University College London in 1997with her research being aimed at diagnostic tests for meniscal injuries of the knee and, on returning to South Africa in 2002, she furthered her passion for Oncology by obtaining her certification in Lymphoedema management through ACOLS in Florida, USA.

She runs a busy private practice focusing on Oncology, her research is carried out in the Provincial (Government) health sector and she has recently been awarded her Doctorate with her PhD thesis, titled: “Clavipectoral Fascia Release and its impact on Lymphoedema in Breast Cancer women of kwaZulu Natal” examination. She won the Sceales Antrobus prize for part of her research in 2016 at the Surgical Research Society of South Africa conference and went onto present the same work in Feb 2017 at the 12th Academic Surgical Conference in Las Vegas and again at the World Confederation of Physiotherapy in Cape Town 2017. She remains passionate about advocating for better care for all oncology patients in a mixed resource setting.

Now she has been awarded her PhD she plans to implement her research into both the private and state sector of Physiotherapy and - to change legislation for better access to physiotherapy in oncology for all South Africans. Advocacy in oncology for patients and healthcare workers in a managed healthcare setting remains one of her many passions.

Her practice has a number of areas of interest. Namely orthopedics, COPD, women’s health, oncology and vertigo, she maintains a strong interest in early intervention, from surgery, right through treatment to full function and return to activities of daily living for all conditions. Her team is sensitive to oncology and offer a wide range of supportive services to complement Donnee’s talents.
